Around 700 residents, mostly senior citizens from Penaga, took full advantage of the vaccination outreach programme today to receive their booster doses.

The vaccination outreach project was organised at the Sekolah Agama Rakyat Al-Saadah here in partnership with Masjid Jamek Al-Hidayah Kuala Muda, the Kepala Batas member of parliament’s service centre, and Penaga health clinic.

The vaccination outreach campaign is reported to be the state’s first of its kind.

Abdullah Yaacob, head of the event’s organising committee, said that the attendance today demonstrated the vaccination outreach program’s enormous success.

We held a discussion with the Penaga health clinic and were told that the response from the locals towards the booster shot was not encouraging.

That was when we decided to organise this vaccination outreach programme, just like what we did for the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (NIP).

Alhamdullilah, the response was overwhelming. About 700 people turned up for the booster shots for the one-day programme," he told the New Straits Times when met.

Abdullah, who is also the chairman of Masjid Jamek Al-Hidayah Kuala Muda, said the mosque launched the vaccination outreach programme after Friday prayers last week. Judging by today’s crowd, many people were responsive to the initiative.

Abdullah had his booster dose first this morning. Sinovac administered his first two doses, and he received the Pfizer vaccination today.

Meanwhile, Yusoff Bakar, 68, claimed he came for his booster dose in regard to the mosque’s announcement.

This is a good initiative. I need not travel far and I need not depend on my children to send me here just like the first two doses.

For the first two doses, I had to travel for several kilometres to Kepala Batas, and for this booster dose, I needed to travel 7km to the Penaga health clinic.

But with this vaccination outreach programme, I can come by myself as it is just near my house," he said.

Yusoff said that he felt tremendous relief after the booster dose since he is now more protected against Covid-19, particularly the Omicron variant.

I heard many stories about the booster shot before this but I just ignored them.

Instead, I feel much better after getting my shot," he added.
