Unvaccinated Individuals Caught Trying To Sneak Across Interstate Borders

Perak police chief Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said six cars attempting to cross the state’s border at KM9 on the East-West Highway at Sungai Lebey, Gerik, going towards Kelantan and Kedah were denied entry and told to return.

Among the reasons given by drivers and passengers who were not fully vaccinated against Covid-19 during police checks during interstate travel along the Gerik-Jeli Highway last Friday (Oct 15) were business dealings, a delivery run, and visiting a sick family member.

“These vehicles included a lorry giving the excuse of delivering goods but the police check revealed that the driver and attendant had not been fully vaccinated," he said in a statement with Bernama.

Meanwhile, he said that police patrols revealed that traffic movement was calm along the route, with no fatalities reported in accidents from Friday to Sunday.

According to the images of traffic congestion that went viral about 4 p.m. Friday along the Gerik-Jeli Highway going towards Kelantan at KM1.5, the traffic crawl did not last long.

“The jam was due to people taking the opportunity for holiday travel to Kelantan in conjunction with the Maulidur Rasul celebration beginning on Friday until Tuesday (Oct 19)," he added.

Highway troopers were checking drivers and passengers in cars crossing the border, according to Comm Mior Faridalathrash.
