Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland do not have figures available due to the holiday season. As experts have remarked, statistics collected around the Christmas season may not accurately reflect the situation, not least because individuals may be less willing to undergo a COVID test.

Data will be unreliable over the festive period as testing and hospital admission patterns change. This will make it difficult to interpret any apparent trends over the next few days," the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE) documents warned.

Meanwhile, British Health Secretary Sajid Javid said that the government would not impose coronavirus restrictions before the end of the year.

Speaking to broadcasters, Javid said that ministers review the data “on a daily basis," adding that this has been steady during the Christmas season.

He asked residents to “remain cautious" in the run-up to the New Year’s festivities.

According to the latest numbers, more than 89 percent of people aged 12 and older in the United Kingdom have received their first dose of vaccination, and over 82 percent have received both doses. Over 56% had received booster vaccinations or the third dose of coronavirus vaccine.

To restore normalcy, countries like the United Kingdom, China, Germany, Russia, and the United States have been racing against the clock to provide coronavirus vaccines.
