Two Kajang Prisoners Died While Another Sixteen Suffered From COVID Vaccine Adverse Effects
The Ministry of Health (MoH) has reported that 18 inmates at Kajang Prison suffered adverse effects following immunisation (AEFI) against Covid-19, two of whom have died.
The National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency’s (NPRA) Regulatory Department director, Dr Roshayati Mohamad Sani, stated in a statement today that the agency is aware of the reports indicating potential AEFI among the detainees.
Following a letter from the prison, the NPRA, which is part of the Ministry of Health, has initiated an investigation into the matter.
“The AEFI reports which were classified as serious cases, including those involving deaths, are currently being investigated.“
“At the same time, an investigation is also being conducted by the Hulu Langat District Health Office together with the Selangor state Health Department to obtain complete information.“
“Subsequently the findings from the investigation will be presented for evaluation by the Covid-19 Vaccine Special Pharmacovigilance Committee to verify the causality or connection between vaccines and adverse effects that have been reported," she added.
Dr Roshayati emphasised that the Ministry of Health, through the NPRA, is regularly monitoring reports of AEFI linked to the numerous vaccines used in the country.
The remark was made in response to a letter sent by Dr Zailiza Suli, the district health officer of Hulu Langat, that went viral. It’s believed that it was only intended for internal distribution because it listed the 18 cases of AEFI that had been documented among inmates.
According to the letter dated November 30, 2021, 15 of the 18 infected inmates were given the Pfizer vaccine, while three were given the CanSino vaccine. They were among the 2,782 inmates who were imprisoned there.

Aside from the two deaths, Dr Zailiza’s letter lists three cases of cardiovascular-related problems, four cases of temporary paralysis, three cases of distant abscesses (sores with pus far from the jab spot), and six cases of lung infections among convicts who had their jabs.
Dr Zailiza further mentioned that the AEFI death rate of one fatality per 1,391 inmates is concerning. She suggested that further research be done before requiring these inmates to receive extra or booster vaccine doses.
Consumer Group To Serve Notice Of Liability To MPs
Meanwhile, in light of Dr Zailiza’s leaked letter, the Malaysian Muslim Consumer Association (PPIM) today challenged the Ministry of Health to answer the alleged AEFIs and the general safety of vaccines.
According to PPIM chief Datuk Nadzim Johan, the organisation has received countless reports from people who have been affected by AEFIs, either personally or through their loved ones.
“There have been many complaints of people suffering side effects after being given the vaccines, so we just want to know the truth.“
“We are not anti-vaxxers, but we are instead pro-safety, where we do not want a dangerous vaccination programme," he said this morning.
Many people have been left wondering about the actual substance of these vaccines and their efficacy in preventing the spread of Covid-19, according to Nadzim.
He then asked the Ministry of Health about the implications of the third and maybe fourth booster doses, which the government is considering, on the general people, given that major AEFIs have been reported from prisons, which are restricted settings.
Referring to cases reported in the prison, he said, “These are reports of (prisoners who received their) second doses, and now before February, we are supposed to get a third dose and now they are discussing the fourth dose and even injecting babies with the vaccine.”
If I become Superman or Ultraman after being injected, I would be willing (to get the booster jab), but it’s not the case and we have to take it seriously.
“That is why they need to explain the actual risks; we do not want to just be slaves or disciples to the vaccine,” he said.
PPIM also wants to serve a notice of liability to every MP, government, and opposition. They will be held accountable if the AEFIs persist after a national vaccine mandate is passed, according to Nadzim.
He then advised lawmakers to trust their instincts and consider the potential major implications of a vaccine requirement before voting to approve it as part of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act (Act 342).
“If in a few months, scientific research starts to show that the deaths were caused by the injections, then they (MPs) would have to answer,” he added.
