Despite the fact that stomach cancer remains the fourth most prevalent cancer worldwide, the number of cases has decreased in recent decades. There’s no way to ensure you won’t have it, but there are things you can try to reduce your chances. Here’s how to make the most of your opportunities.

Check On Ulcers

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is a common bacteria that causes stomach ulcers. It doesn’t necessarily make people ill, but it can cause ulcers by infecting the stomach lining. It’s also a carcinogen, meaning it has the ability to trigger cancer. If you have stomach ulcers, the doctor would likely need to search for and treat an H. pylori infection.


Fresh fruits and vegetables

Be sure to include plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables in each meal. You could be less likely to develop stomach cancer as a result of this. Citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons, and grapefruit are excellent selections. When it comes to grapefruit, though, you should check with the doctor to see how it will interact with other medications you’re taking (including statins, which many people use to reduce their LDL or “bad" cholesterol levels). Instead of processed meats or red meat, the American Cancer Society recommends eating fish, poultry, or beans, as well as whole-grain bread, pasta, and cereal instead of refined grains (for instance, whole-wheat flour instead of white flour).

Reduce Smoked Foods

To preserve food in the days before refrigerators, people smoked, pickled, and salted it. As a result, minimize the intake of smoked and pickled products, as well as salted meats and fish.

Do you have a family history of stomach cancer? A genetic test will tell you if you have certain genes, such as the CDH1 gene and Lynch syndrome, that make you more susceptible to stomach cancer.
