The Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) has barred any activities to welcome the new year. The state remains under Phase Three of the National Recovery Plan, which mandates business establishments to end operations every day at 12 a.m.

Sarawak SDMC said in a statement on Tuesday (Dec 28) that operators of business premises found to violate this prohibition would face sanctions, and enforcement authorities will step up integrated operations to ensure compliance with the standard operating procedure (SOP).

Meanwhile, according to the state Local Government and Housing Ministry’s SOP, children’s arcades in shopping centres would be permitted to reopen on January 1, 2022.

Operators of children’s arcades must apply for permission from local authorities before they are allowed to start operations," the statement said.

Covid-19 infections in Sarawak continued to decline Tuesday, falling to 19 cases from 21 on Monday (Dec 27), with no new deaths, clusters, or active clusters recorded.
