Long lines formed today at an off-site Covid-19 booster vaccination centre in Kelana Jaya, with senior folks complaining about the authorities’ poor planning.

Many of them not only had to wait in the sun for over an hour but there was also no toilet available for them to use when they needed to relieve themselves.

FMT discovered that nearly all those queuing were senior citizens who had to wait for their booster doses for at least an hour outside of shops or in the hot sun.

They were also seen not keeping sufficient physical distance, raising fears of a Covid-19 outbreak among people in line.

Although everyone in line had been given appointments and specified time slots through MySejahtera, crowding nevertheless occurred. A member of the staff at the centre was spotted attempting, but failing, to increase the physical gap between those in line.

Due to the scorching weather and having to stand for hours, many of those seeking the booster dose appeared weary.

One of them, Mohd Sarmin, criticised the location of the vaccination centre, claiming that it was too tiny and that people had to wait outside in the blistering sun.

We are old people. Look at me, I can barely walk properly. How do you expect me to stand for hours?

Chew Sui Ling, 70, said she had waited for more than an hour under the hot sun. “I arrived around 12.30pm. There are people waiting longer than me,” she told FMT.

Chew, too, said the centre was not suitable for senior citizens.

There is no toilet around. That is not good, especially for senior citizens. People are waiting outside under the hot sun. What if it suddenly rains?

Another person, who only wanted to be known as Chan, said the whole vaccination process was being managed poorly.

Look at this massive crowd, what nonsense is this? The long queues have also disrupted the businesses at these shop lots, as we are blocking the entrances. That is not right.”
