Pharmaniaga Strongly Recommends Same Brand Of Vaccine For Booster Doses To All Adults And Elderly
Covid-19 booster doses will help to restore a declining immune response while also increasing the amount of neutralising antibodies produced against highly contagious variants of the virus by a significant amount.
Pharmaniaga Bhd released a statement on 13th Oct stating that the same brand of Covid-19 vaccination booster doses is strongly recommended based on data from boosting studies in the adult and elderly populations.
This conclusion was drawn by experts during a virtual webinar hosted by Pharmaniaga, titled “COVID-19 Booster Shots and Vaccination for Children: Moving forward with experiences from China, Chile, and Indonesia.”
“The panel experts concurred that taking booster shots will substantially increase antibodies which have started to decline six months after the second dose, according to the studies,” it said.
Weining Meng, a Senior Director of International Business at Sinovac Biotech Co Ltd, was one of the panellists. Meng stated that a booster dose given between six and 12 months following the second dose resulted in a significant increase in immune response, with geometric mean titers (GMTs) rising to about 140.
The Chinese Academy of Sciences, Peking University, and Sinovac Biotech conducted research that revealed that a third dose would enable vaccine protection to continue longer and have greater persistence, according to the researcher.
Meng said that the scheduling of a booster dose should take into consideration the presence of Covid-19 infection in the country as well as the occurrence of new Covid-19 cases after the initial vaccination.
“The GMT six months after the third dose is higher than the peak of the second dose. In addition, the studies also showed higher persistence of antibodies six months after the booster dose compared to the second dose, indicating a longer duration of protection from Covid-19 and other new variants,” Meng said.
Sinovac Biotech Co has delivered more than two billion doses of CoronaVac to customers around the world to date. By Oct. 12, 2021, more than 810 million doses had been delivered to countries outside of China, while more than 1.2 billion doses had been administered within the country.

Dr Alexis M. Kalergis, professor and director of the Millennium Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy in Santiago, Chile, who spoke at the conference, said that the majority of the vaccinations given to the Chilean people were manufactured by Sinovac.
“In Chile, the regulator has approved the use of CoronaVac vaccine starting from six years, and older children and this vaccine campaign is moving smoothly so far due to better safety profile in the paediatric population,” Dr Kalergis said.
Dr Kalergis added that Sinovac’s covid-19 vaccine demonstrated high levels of safety and efficacy within Chile amongst its population. He also noted that of its benefit, booster doses significantly enhance and increase the amount of neutralising antibodies in healthy adults.
“The effectiveness of the booster shots is expected to be high for the Sinovac vaccine. The Chilean health fraternity is more comfortable using the Sinovac vaccine as it is made using an inactivated virus platform that has been extensively used in the past, such as the polio vaccine.”
“No doubt other vaccines are effective as well, but the main reason why we decided to work with inactivated vaccines – Sinovac, is because data shows it is more comprehensive in terms of an immune response,” he concluded.
