Malaysia Fears A Further Covid Wave As The RT Rate Increases
The Health Ministry is reviewing hospitals and other leading indicators in light of the country’s increasing COVID-19 infectivity rate (Rt) to 1.0.
Minister Khairy Jamaluddin also asked individuals who have been scheduled for a COVID-19 booster dose to attend.
“The elderly, where possible, should avoid crowded places. Practice #TRIIS (test, report, isolate, inform, seek),” he said.
The Rt value indicates COVID-19’s degree of infectivity, or the number of cases that may be infected by a single positive case.
Meanwhile, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a tweet that the rise in infectivity to 1.0 indicates that the daily tally pattern for COVID-19 cases will become flat.
“Our concern is if the daily tally were on the rise,” he said.

Dr Noor Hisham also encouraged the public to adhere to standard operating procedures and the vulnerable to attend their booster shot appointments.
He also voiced concern over the country’s recent spike of positive COVID-19 cases, with 6,323 new cases recorded on Thursday.
Previously, the country’s daily COVID-19 case count had been falling, with just 4,343 new cases recorded on Sunday.
