Housewife Fined RM5000 And Default 5 Months Imprisonment For Spreading Fake News On Covid-19
The Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur fined a housewife RM5,000 today after she pleaded guilty to disseminating false information about the COVID-19 infection last April.
Deputy District Attorney Musyiri Peet (rpt: Musyiri Peet) handed out the fine, in default five months in prison, on Nor Sakinah Razelan, 31.
On April 18, she was charged with spreading false news through the use of the WhatsApp application and a telephone number that was registered in her name, at Lot 8664 Jalan Pauh, Kampung Belukar, Arau at 10:31 a.m.. Nor Sakinah Razelan was charged with spreading false news with the intent to cause fear or anxiety to the general public.
The lady, who is the mother of three children, was charged under Section 4 (1) of the Emergency (Essential Powers) (No. 2) Ordinance 2021.
Mohd Nordin Ismail, the head of the state prosecution department, prosecuted the case, while the housewife was defended by lawyer Mohd Hapiz Rajali.
